Material Data Sheet
Inconel600 (Nickel alloy 600) is a standardengineering material for applications that require resistance to corrosion andheat. The alloy also has excellent mechanical properties and presents the desirablecombination of high strength and good workability.
The high nickel content gives Inco 600resistance to corrosion from many organic and inorganic compounds and alsomakes it virtually immune to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking. Chromiumensures resistance to sulfur compounds and also provides resistance tooxidizing conditions at high temperatures or in corrosive solutions. Inconel600 is not precipitation hardenable and is hardened and strengthened only bycold work. The versatility of Inco 600 has led to its use in a variety ofapplications involving temperatures from cryogenic to above 2000ˇăF (1095ˇăC).
The alloy is used extensively in thechemical industry for its strength and corrosion resistance. Recommended fillermetal when welding is Inconel® 82 and welding electrodes in Inconel® 182 orInco Weld® A.
Material Data Sheet
Inconel 718 is a vacuum melted (double ortriple melted for cleanliness) precipitation-hardening nickel alloy.
It maintains its high strength, oxidation, and corrosion resistance while maintaining its superior ductility under extremeenvironments. Inconel 718 is used in many industries for critical applicationsincluding aerospace, defense and petrochemical. Inconel 718 is characterized byhaving superb tensile, fatigue, creep and rupture strength at temperatures upto 1290 ˇăF (980 ˇăC). This makes it ideal for many high-temperature applicationssuch as gas turbine, instrumentation, and power/process industry parts. It alsohas excellent utility for cryogenic applications. Parts built from Inconel 718can be easily post-hardened through precipitation-hardening heat treatments. Inboth traditional and age-hardened states, the parts can be machined, sparkeroded, welded, micro shot-peened, polished and coated if required.
The 4 main Inconel 718 bar stockingpositions taken by Alloys International, Inc. are in accordance withAMS 5662 solution treated, AMS 5663 and 5664 solution treated and aged and NACEMR-01-75. For other forms please see the chart below.
NACE MR-01-75, produced in accordance withthe API (American Petroleum Institute), is in a separate category from the AMSmaterial, with adjusted chemistry that allows for the material to have adifferent range of characteristics. It also employs an adjusted annealing andaging temperature, which produces a product with lower mechanicals, largergrain and increased toughness. This is generally preferred for many oil, offshore, and OEM applications.
